Bodice Mockup is sewn!

And what is really awesome about that is that I can use the mockup muslin as the lining. I am going to get some pink dye and dye it so it blends better, but at least the is two birds with one stone.

On a related note, I am now in that state of concern that my husband was in a few weeks ago, so I should be power sewing as much as possible in the coming weeks! I was exhausted this evening after a day out in the sun at Maker Faire and then watching the eclipse, but I dragged myself to the machine for even just an hour to get that step done.  I am going to try and do that every evening that I do not have something to do scheduled.

If I break it into tiny steps and keep plodding along, the task becomes more manageable. :-)

Oh My! Pompadours!

I think I want both colors of these shoes from American Duchess! They are on Pre-order from May 14 until June 1, and she needs 100 pairs on order in order to actually make this happen, so if you love these, you should pre-order some here!

I found more perfect fabric!

I was wandering around Fabrics-R-Us and look what I found! Another pink on pink stripe - way wider this time!

And here's what they look like together! They match perfectly!

No, I have no idea what I am going to do with this - probably use it for the skirt, but maybe just a bustle, we'll see.

My brain keeps adding ideas to the costume, which is bad, and things keep getting modified and updated.  We'll see how much time I actually have. :-)

Ok, here we go!

I have a plan. It's in my phone, in the notes section, so it's real. I have also cleaned up my guest room enough to keep me sane(ish) through this process, so I believe I have pondered enough and need to start rolling as we are 7 and 1/2 weeks out and I have 2 costumes to make. Happily, I have all my undergarments already made from the polonaise project, so I don;t have to worry about doing any of that! Most of Wendy's stuff will not require a pattern, so I am not too worried that any of it will take too long, individually, but the whole thing might take a while. I have decided to do these in tandem as they are totally different and will provide me with opportunities to step away from one thing and focus on something completely different if I get stuck somewhere and need to get my head out of it.

Tonight, I have to show for myself: Cleaning and pattern prep. Thankfully, this is a Truly Victorian patter , which I am practically a size model for, so I can cut my pattern out with confidence and I don't have to do any ironing onto freezer paper for this one. Just a whole bunch of cutting.

I decided to try Truly Victorian 405 and see if I can make that work for me:

Really, it was the butt-pleats that sold it. I mean, look at them.

This will be my first solo bodice, but the last time things went beautifully (on the Polonaise), so I am confident!

The next few nights are busy for me, socially, but I think I will be cutting up the mockup this weekend, and hopefully start sewing it as well. I'll report when I have news. Posts may be short and to the point while I report progress.  I'll try and show pictures when I can though!

Inspiration! And the horror of my husband...

I have spent the last couple of weeks catching up on all of the things that I pushed off while I was panic sewing for the Titanic event, but my costume has been churning in my brain, never fear!

I pulled some inspiration images and I thought I would share them:

Somehow, my costume has inspired a group costume for LOJ this year and we have recruited in a ton of people that have never been before.  I think we have 13 people this time around, which is amazing! Everyone is going to do some sort of Alice themed/inspired costume, and we even have some of the really random characters being represented.

Oh, and I sort of volunteered, much to my husband's horror, to build most of a costume for one of my BFFs. Wendy screams Alice to me, and pretty much everyone who knows her. She was undecided on coming, but I think me making a costume for her helped push her over the edge.  I have some pretty cool ideas for it, so stay tuned.  In some ways I am more excited about hers than I am about mine at this point. :-)

Side note: When my husband heard that I had volunteered for this, he totally freaked out.  He started saying very animatedly "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!" and "YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TIME FOR *YOUR*COSTUME!!!" and "DO YOU REMEMBER LAST WEEK WHEN YOU WERE PANIC SEWING???"  and "YOU SHOULD BE SEWING NOW!!!" which I found very amusing.  I guess I should be more worried, but at this point I am still in my dreamy ideas stage where I forget how long stuff takes and try and see how many ideas I can have about one costume.

Anyway, I pulled some inspiration for hers too:

I sure hope this works out!!
