GBACG Holiday Bustle Tea

The holiday tea was great fun! I have almost no pictures of me, cuz I'm not that bright, apparently. I do have a couple on my phone, which I'll post now, and I have some group shots on my camera, which I'll post when I get them off of my camera in the next couple days.

The Palace Hotel is *so* beautiful. I highly recomend going there for brunch someday if you ever can!

Stomacher sewing done!

I have the stomacher sewing done and the buttons made. I just need to apply them tomorrow (all 26 of them - ugh!) and then make some sort of decoration for my hat to replace the iron man mask.

More tomorrow!

Buttons!

I'm in production on a new stomacher so my Iron Man Bustle Dress can become a legit 1870's bustle dress for the Holiday Bustle Tea this weekend. I'll post pictures as I go, and, of course, pics of the tea itself!

OMG! Hula Cam!!

This is pretty awesome!  Here's a Hula Cam set up at Comikaze:

And here's one from DragonCon:

A lot of people want to know why I like Dragon*Con the best

It's kind of hard to describe, except that it's totally laid back and TOTALLY high quality at the same time.  It's a 4 day party and everyone is just having a great time and enjoying the craftsmanship that everyone else has put in.  It's wonderful. I can't do it justice, so I will give you these videos to watch if you want to get a little bit of the experience. The fact that this many people make music videos of the experience should tell you something. :-)

So, I just found out that my Iron Man costume was on Blastr for DragonCon 50 awesome cosplay pics! I'm #23.  It was months ago and I had no idea until someone at Comikaze told me! Neat!

New Events Page Added and New Template

I added a new events page in case people want to join me for costume related stuff! You can find the list of things I will be going to on the sidebar over there -->!

I'm also messing around with my template a bit as I have gotten bored of that one, so please pardon my dust while I figure out what I want to do! :-) I kind of like this one for now, so I'll see how it goes!

FYI, I moved my blogroll to the resources page. It needs to get updated anyway!

Ok, I caved...

I'm willing to play and see how it goes (largely cuz I have the vast majority of this done, and I need to finish it for the Carnival event in Feb anyway).

More info here, come play with us (ONE OF US! ONE OF US!).

I am claiming Lady Innes, Thomas Gainsborough, 1757

Because I already have this (thanks Noelle!):

Robe a la Francaise

And I really want to wear it! So I need to fiddle with some bits and then do trim and I am golden.  Just have to have someone get me into it is all...

So, people asked me a lot while I was at DragonCon how long it took me to make the dress. And I actually had an answer ready: 117 hours.

When I was working on the butterfly dress, my co-worker Laurel asked me the same question, but I didn't have an answer. "Uhhh, I dunno. A while." is I think what I said. So she said that I should log it sometime just to see. So I did. This was my log, in case you are interested.

All Pictures posted! Con Report!

If you have time and are interested: check out my Flickr set of photos from DragonCon as there are some REALLY great costumes in there!

Mia, Sahrye, Amber, Holly, Hal, and I all had a really great time at the con. Its really hard to explain to people what DC is like, but really, the best way is that it is a 4 day long costume party.  Sure, there are panels, and dealers rooms and workshops, and autographs and all the normal con stuff, but more frequently, you just spend your time wandering the three main hotels, checking out people's costumes and being checked out in return.

I wore my Iron man Bustle Dress on Friday for my photoshoot with Anna, who was super relaxed and easy to work with. I think we got some great shots!  After that, I was just going to walk my costume for an hour or two and then take it off cuz it is HOT in the ATL, but kept getting swept into other things and ended up walking around in it for about 9 hours. It got a TON of photos taken of it, and a million really awesome compliments, which were greatly appreciated.  I didn't really realize how much attention I got until I walked around not in costume with other people who were in really great costumes too, and they didn't get nearly the amount of stops and photos and comments that I did. I wonder what it was about it that made it so popular.  It's sort of intimidating though because it sets the bar really high for next time. :-) You really have to bring it at DragonCon. I guess I need to have a photoshoot every time!

Considering it was my first time actually costuming at a Con, I think it went exceedingly well.  It's also the first time I felt really "done and ready" wearing a costume and was super proud of what I had done. I hope I can continue that now that I know what that looks like.  In the mean time, I am gonna wear the CRAP out of this dress to every event I possibly can to get my money's worth out of it! :-)

I'll post my time log that I kept for this project next so you can see how much work went in and how slooooooooooooooooow I am, but it totaled up at 117 hours, and really, I think that was low-balling it. It doesn't include all the time I spent thinking about it and stewing on techniques.  I guess I did something right though, cuz it certainly was a magical experience to wear it this weekend!

Here it is!

I wore it yesterday for the photoshoot (which went really well) and then around the con for something like 9 hours yesterday. I got a ton of compliments and people took hundreds of pictures of me. It was pretty awesome, especially considering that this was my first time costuming at a con!

Anyway, here you go!

Tuesday: Clothes are done!

Well, all of my trim is sewn on the skirt, the skirt is bustled, some fidley bots are taken care of and all the clothes are ready.  I need to get a pouch in somewhere to hold the battery pack and get the hat done, but I think that is manageable tomorrow. The secret project is coming along very nicely. Hopefully it will actually work when it is all together.

Here's what the skirt and apron look like together:

Monday Monday, so good to me...

So a quick note before I go to sleep. Not only did secret project progress super awesomely today, but I also managed to get the trim on the ENTIRE apron today. I  powered through thoughts of putting sections off until tomorrow and just got 'er done and I think it looks fabo!

Tomorrow I will do the skirt, and if I have time, take care of some fidley bits that have been waiting to be done. After that, it's trimming the hat, packing, and off I go!
