Here it is!

I wore it yesterday for the photoshoot (which went really well) and then around the con for something like 9 hours yesterday. I got a ton of compliments and people took hundreds of pictures of me. It was pretty awesome, especially considering that this was my first time costuming at a con!

Anyway, here you go!

Current time left: 0 days - I am feature complete

My marathon is run, the dress is now getting wrinkley in a suitcase, and I am off to DragonCon tomorrow! I got the hat finished, despite having to re-do some of my secret project, and here it is! I was trying some foam fabrication stuff for the fist time in order to make an iron man eye mask to use as a hat band.

Here's the final report on progress.  Witness the green:

Tuesday: Clothes are done!

Well, all of my trim is sewn on the skirt, the skirt is bustled, some fidley bots are taken care of and all the clothes are ready.  I need to get a pouch in somewhere to hold the battery pack and get the hat done, but I think that is manageable tomorrow. The secret project is coming along very nicely. Hopefully it will actually work when it is all together.

Here's what the skirt and apron look like together:

Monday Monday, so good to me...

So a quick note before I go to sleep. Not only did secret project progress super awesomely today, but I also managed to get the trim on the ENTIRE apron today. I  powered through thoughts of putting sections off until tomorrow and just got 'er done and I think it looks fabo!

Tomorrow I will do the skirt, and if I have time, take care of some fidley bits that have been waiting to be done. After that, it's trimming the hat, packing, and off I go!

Sunday Update: Trim done, panic setting in

Well, as I expected, not everything got done this weekend. As it turns out, I can only stand at my iron making trim for about 10 hours a day before my spine starts telling me off, and there's fidley bits that I don't blog about that filled the rest of the time (trips to Joann, the hardware store, etc, and making things like S.H.I.E.L.D. hat pins).  However! All of the trim that I need is made.  And that is about 20 hours of work this weekend, so I call that a win. In the next 3 days, I need to sew all of that trim on and also trim out my hat and we are good to go. I think it is possible, but I am also attempting some hail-mary things that have me nervous. If they happen, I will let you know about them. If they don't, then I will save them for the next wearing.

Anyway, the list is updated. I am trying very hard to manage my panic and to manage expectations. I also have to pack. :-)

More as it happens!

As a sneak-peek, here's how it is looking before trim:

Trim for the apron is created!

Now I'm making trim for the skirt.  Yesterday I worked about 10 hours and still didn't get the full apron trim done, so that tells you how long ironing, hemming, and hand pleating all of this takes...

Friday Update: Buttons are on!

30 buttons are attached and my fingertips tingle as I type this, but at least that is over.  Hopefully it fits! :-)

I also received awesome gloves and cut and sort of reinforced the holes in them.

I am a trim-making monkey all weekend.  I am gonna go ice my finger tips now...

Wednesday update: Apron Done!

YAY! That took comfortably as long as I thought it would, which is great because I am getting better at estimating how long things take me. Excellent.  The apron is done and with the exception of putting the buttons on the stomacher, which I am avoiding like the plague for some reason, I am a trim-making fool for the next week, which seems reasonable.

Here's what that looks like:

The apron and the skirt are cut from the very same fabric, right next to one another, but because one is cut cross grain and one is cut straight grain, they  look like 2 different colors of red in some light.  Here's hoping that trim helps that out a lot!

I realized my day counter was off because I was counting the day that I was posting, which is typically over by the time I post. so that's fixed. All-in-all I feel like I am in pretty good shape for being a week out.

Monday Update

This weekend was kind of rough.  The sleeves made me totally scared and then angry and then frustrated and then resigned.  However, I am moving past that and am making my first apron. Yay new experiences!  I hope I am getting lots of experience points from this one!

Since we last spoke, I have cut the apron fabric out and also made all of the fabric covered buttons for the stomacher.  I need to attache them to the stomacher, but am sort of avoiding that currently, for no good reason. It will take me a couple evenings of sewing the apron and then I will at least have all the clothes I need to wear and will just need to trim them.  Hopefully that will go well and quickly. I am grateful that I have this whole weekend, except one possible thing, which I might ditch, to work solidly.

Oh, also, my gloves came and they were way too small so I order another pair this afternoon.  Hopefully they will work out.

Sleeves exitst!

It only took 3 1/2 hours, several battles, me cutting both the arm scye (OMG!!!) AND the sleeve head, and a lot of swearing.  They are not perfect, but they are good enough and they are on, so I'm counting that as a win.

Oy.

Aaaand we have a skirt!

Trim, like Sunday, come after-wards.

Now to set some sleevils. Wish me luck!

SATURDAY: Status Update - Week of 8/12

Saturday:
I only had a few hours today, thanks to a prior engagement, so I went to Joann and stocked up on some stuff that I will need in the middle of the night when i am working (namely 40-something 1/2 inch buttons with which to make fabric-covered buttons) and then came home and started on the skirt. I would say that I am about 60% done. I added netting in the back as it is bustled (as is the apron, I will be the most over-bustled person ever!), which I have never done before and basically made this into the most complicated skirt build I have ever done, but hey, that's how we learn.

I wanted to push into the night pretty hard, but I started to get super tired and that isn't good for anything, so I quit while I was ahead. I am not sure if I will get all of the items on my list done tomorrow as we have a concert in the evening, but we'll see.  I am trying to not beat myself up too too much about things so this is me practicing that art.

I think starting tomorrow, I will resume individual posts for things as there's gonna be a lot of days of me making trim in the future....

Friday:
Yesterday I had a dinner date so not much got done, but I did get some hand basting done, so at least there was some forward movement.

Tonight I made the button holes on my jacket, tore apart the stomacher to add boning and put it back together, and then cut my skirt fabric out. So, pretty good progress given that I worked all day.

I also took a picture of the jacket so far.  The stomacher doesn't have buttons yet, so it is just pinned in, but you get the idea at least:

Wednesday:
First, I want to apologize for lack of pics. I am trying top get so much done, I am not taking pictures, but I will shortly for you. Today I got the sleeves pattern sorted, cut and sewn.  I used ones from a completely different jacket as I don;t like the ones that come with this one. I am waiting to put them in though until the button hole situation is sorted as that just adds more stuff into the mix when you are trying to do some stressful stitching (this will only be my third time making buttonholes and i find the process nerve-wracking!). Anyway, things are moving along.

Tuesday:
Fidley bits have been worked on and are complete! :-)

Monday:
Got the collar on.  Got the lining sewn in.  I am moving trims around in here because it is better to be dressed and not trimmed than not dressed! I have a feeling some of that may be happening up until the 29th so I wouldn't hold my breath on these goals either. :-) The important things is that I am dressed and capable of attending a photo-shoot!

I also realized that I have a bunch of fidley bits work that I need to do here and there (ironing, clipping, adding another bone, etc.), so I will probably do all of that tomorrow, probably not making much progress on the list, but important none-the-less...

SUNDAY: Status Update - Week of 8/5

Sometime later Sunday -
Finished the stomacher - did the lining and the Velcro!

Here it is with no light so you can see it:

And here it is with the light in...

Sunday -
I figured out that I can't attach the collar, and therefor the lining, until I figure out the stomacher part. I have been avoiding doing that like mad 'cuz I have no idea what I am doing, but I bit the bullet and made one today. I think it turned out pretty awesome, and pretty much like I imagined it, although I have no idea if it is too large yet. I guess we'll see! Anyway, I am breathing a sigh of relief now that it is done and I know what I am doing, and I can make it smaller if I need to, so yay, a major stumbling block over.  What that *may* mean is that the jacket lining and collar may not get done by today - we'll see.  I have so much done from next week's batch that I am not terribly upset about it.

I need to go sew the lining fabric onto it and attach the light velcro to it still. I will update this again when I am done for the night and see if I got any farther.

Saturday-
Today did not go as planned, although I got to hang out with friends and catch up with people, so that was good.  I did get to spend 5 hours boning my jacket though (and not in the awesome way), so that's all done!

Friday -
Well, this week was kind of a wash in general.  I wasn't feeling well with some con crud, I had some work to do one night and two of my friends got married this week, so one day was lost to celebrating (well worth it).  However, here we are on Friday and I finally have something done that is not hat related!

I have the main jacket fabric sen together, pinked and pressed:

I also created the collar.  I made it one side red and the other gold so that I can choose which way I want to put it on the jacket when it comes time to attach it.

In hat related news, I cut out and sewed in the lining!

Tuesday -
Well, looks like CoCo derailed me only slightly - I thought I wouldn't get anything done, but I did, so that's great. Sadly though, my hat was kind of a mess when put toget, her so last night I tore the brim off of the hat and the bias tape off the brim and redid the bias and re-applied the brim. When I had curved up the brim, the fabric went all slack and gross, which made me sad.  When I pulled everything off, I was able to put in a few stitches that while they don't completely solve the problem, they help a LOT, so I am WAY happier with my hat. I saw a lady at CoCo wearing the same hat and she advised that some spray adhesive would help a great deal with this problem, but I do wonder what people did back in the day...

Here's where we are with the hat as of now:

I have broken down the stuff to be done a bit further by goal dates so that I can stay on track - we'll see if that actually helps or not. :-) I still don;t feel too panicked, but I am edging closer - hopefully this weekend will get me to a good place. I only have to have tea with some friends and that is it, so I should have some good sewing ahead of me.

I do seem to have come down with some sort of con-crud though, which is slowing me down some, so I am trying to stay quiet and calm and get through that as fast as possible.  More probably tonight when we see where I have gotten to.
