My friend, David Ngo (http://www.dtjaaaam.com - go check him out!), and I ran into eachother this weekend several times, which is really weird because we have been at several cons together this year and managed to miss eachother at even the smallest of events.
Anyway, he took this great shot of us when we happened to be having out with a Def-Eater (ha!):
We are having a great time! We only lasted for about 3 hours in Sailor Moon before all of our feet have out, and almost all of the pictures are weird because of lighting and 4 people trying not to make silly faces, but here's a pretty decent shot that I got last night:
I have already uploaded several hundred shots to flickr and several hundred more of the costume parade from this morning. Feel free to have a look, I will continue to upload through the day all weekend!
Things are going pretty well. I managed to have lunch with a dear friend (although I may have been a jerk and slightly more in my own head than normal thinking about how I will attack things), and I got to go hot-tubbing with my BFF and her mom, who is visiting, which was a milestone because it was her first venture into my hot tub as she has been pregnant until recently.
And i still managed to get things completed.
I do still have some small stuff to take care of, but I have tomorrow and they are all closures. Aside from the vest button holes, nothing is terribly stressful. I might even have time to add some cute trim to my skirt. We'll see. I'm not about to push it.
The majority of my day was about my witch hat for my Harry Potter outfit. It is done and I am actually rather proud of it, so I took some photos so you all can check it out in some good light.
Shout out to my lunch buddy who helped me work out stuff on the hat that was hanging me up!
Here's where we stand:
Vest - - Add Buttons Skirt - Trim Skirt (this is a nice to have) Hat - Cover Hat form-Done - Embellishments -Done
Belt - Make beltfastening
- Glue on belt star-Done Headset - Paint headset-Done
Wow, I got a ton of stuff done today! I started the day really badly and was feeling pretty crappy until about 2 or 3, all culminating in a trip to the dentist in which I found out that I need yet another crow. When I got home, I hit it hard. I finished my shield. I mostly covered my hat. I have the headset almost done. I also got a bunch of the embellishments ready to go for the hat. Things are moving along nicely to be done on time.
I also decided that the visor will get attached at the con. The whole thing is really awkward to travel with anyway and having that attached will be a nightmare. We are just attaching them with wire anyway, and I can do that there.
And, because I know you all love pictures, behold! I am a shield maiden:
Here's the short list:
Vest - - Add Buttons Skirt - Trim Skirt (this is a nice to have) Hat - Cover Hat form- In Progress - Embellishments - In Progress
Belt - Make beltfastening
- Glue on belt star Shield - Paint shield-Done - Attach the worbla part to the acrylic part that Sahrye made -Done Headset - Paint headset- In Progress (so very close!)
With NIN/Soundgarden taking up a huge chunk of my evening, I thought that I would not actually get much done today, but major progress with the painting the shield and the headset, some work on the vest (just needs buttons and button holes), some work on the hat all got done. I only have 3 more days left so this is a really good thing. Tomorrow is a dentist appointment and then more of the same! I think I have an idea of how to cover the hat so wish me luck!
Vest - - Bind arm holes - Done - Add Buttons Skirt - Trim Skirt (this is a nice to have) Hat - Pad hat form - Done - Cover Hat form - Embellishments
Belt - Make beltfastening

The list is super short at this point, but the tasks are big and take many days because it involves applying coats of paint, which need to dry.
Today I started both of the bigger tasks that I have been mentally hindered by. I formed the hat and it went well - now I just have to figure out how to cover something so mishapen. I also took a venture into Worbla, as seen in the previous post's pictures. It's nt perfect, but it's way good enough for me, especially for a first attempt!
Here's a picture of the shape of the hat, after I attempted to get it into a more rumpled condition:
And as a reminder, here's the original art that inspired me, although I have changed a number of aspects of the outfit to reflect both reality and my tastes:
I won't have much time tomorrow as I will be at NIN/Soundgarden, but I will update with what I did get done!

Every day, I have these delusions that I will work for like 15 hours on costumes... and every day I am wrong. With 2 friends that just had babies, a DAILY run to Joann Fabrics to get newly realized supplies and misc other appointments and errands, I never actually start before like 5:00. It's actually a miracle that I get as much done as I do. Happily, or maybe not very happily, other members of my group are also in the same boat, so at least we are all in it together!
I got a fair amount done today, including the little picture I posted below, and work on both costumes. I have been painting those shoes for days - layers and layers of paint to achieve a streak-free appearance - and the bottom part of the shoes are now metallic silver as well. I got the bag almost completely sorted, so yay.
There are small bits that are not done, like putting closures on all of the gaments (hooks and eyes, etc) that I am not really paying attention to here, largely because I can do them in the hotel if necessary.
While i am looking forward to wearing these next weekend, I am also very much looking forward to walking around in plain clothes as well. This is 100% more costume than I wore last year and that was more than I had ever worn before. It's super fun to be in costume and to take pictures and what not, but it's also really fun to just be the one taking the pictures and relaxing. I will of course, post the link here to my photos, and you can always click the link on the sidebar to get there on your own.
All of that being said, here's where we are as of today. I have 2 major projects left and i am pretty intimidated by both of them. The hat and the sheild - - both with things that I have never tried before. Fortunately, at this point, I am at least fully clothed, so from here it's all gravy.
We'll see how this plays out...
